At LWAG we believe that water baptism is something each individual decides to do when they are old enough to understand the “why” behind the “what” of that choice. Jesus himself gave us this example by being baptized as an adult as an example to all his followers. It is for that reason that instead of infant baptisms, we offer parents the opportunity to dedicate their children to the Lord.
What is a Baby Dedication?
When you “dedicate your baby” you are publicly stating that you are going to raise that child in the ways of God using the Bible as your only source of spiritual direction, and helping them understand who Jesus is, the radical sacrifice He made for them on the cross, and the crazy amount of joy found in serving him. It’s not that we strive to make sure our kids “follow religious rules” but that we help them come to see that they are actually set free from them by realizing that Jesus secured their eternity. Later in life, if they’ve made the conscience choice to follow Christ on their own, Jesus invites them to be baptized in water to reveal that choice to their friends, family, and the world. Until then, you’re their primary example of what it means to “follow Christ” and live a life serving Him.
When is the next Baby Dedication?
Due to the number of parents desiring to dedicate their child, we perform them in groups various times a year in our 11:00am service. The next baby dedication is on Sunday, May 13th. That’s right, Mothers Day!!!
